New Orleans, March 17, 2003 - Today was the opening day of CTIA Wireless 2003, the conference that has connectivity as focal area. A big part of the Ernest N. Morial Convention Centre in New Orleans is packed with over 700 exhibitors. The main theme of this conference is: Live Well, Work Smart, Play Hard – Wireless makes it possible. At DotNETForDevices we limit ourselves to informing you about mobile solutions using PocketPC’s in all kinds of varieties.

Microsoft was prominent present, along with a number of partners showing lots of different PocketPC’s, PocketPC Phone and Smart Phones. Besides these devices, the tablet PC also got attention.
At CTIA Wireless 2003 Sprint announced that it will offer two PCS Phones based on the CDMA version of the Microsoft Pocket PC software in the second quarter of 2003 including the PCS Phone by Samsung SPH-i700 and PCS Phone by Hitachi® G1000. These devices combine cell phone functionality with PocketPC functionality, generating a true one device, mobile solution.

Not yet available in the USA but already available in Europe is the Smart Phone. This device has a smaller screen than a PocketPC. It does not have a touch screen, but it is a Windows CE powered device. Both Smart Phone and PocketPC phone edition can make use of the .NET Compact Framework. Although the Smart Phone is a really cool device, entering data is somewhat difficult. As you can see, creative solutions are already available to make data entry on such devices easier.

Tomorrow the Microsoft Mobility Developer Conference starts with a pre-conference with three long sessions covering different .NET subjects. Starting with the pre-conference we will cover the Microsoft Mobility Developer Conference in detail with a lot of information on the .NET Compact Framework and of course the latest news, announced by Bill Gates during the keynote presentation.
