A weekly column?

Usually I had time enough during the weekend to at least write something about Windows CE and Mobile Device Development. The last few weeks have been different. It has been impossible to write something for DotNETForDevices, because work is piling up. Since I started the webcast series on developing a Windows Mobile Line-Of-Business application back in January it has been a continuous fight against deadlines. Having a presentation ready each week, accompanied by sample code and a how-to manual that easily reaches 30 pages is a serious attack on my spare time. It is simply a matter of priorities, but weekends are filled completely preparing for an upcoming webcast and trying to share as much knowledge as possible with the community. That simply means that there was no time to also write columns, let alone regularly update my blog. So DotNETForDevices has been quiet for a few weeks already. Unfortunately this will continue to be the case until the webcast series is over by the end of March. I am already starting to get mixed feelings about that. On one hand it will be a relief, not struggling with deadlines after March 29 for a while. On the other hand, it is so cool to be able to talk about device development that I surely will miss it. So here are a few promises. The first one is that I will write more again for DotNETForDevices once the webcast series is done, probably starting by the end of March. If there is any spare time until then I will not hesitate to publish more on DotNETForDevices as well, so make sure you come back regularly. The second promise is that I definitely will think about a next webcast series, maybe for later this year. One thing that is seriously lacking in the current series is talking about application architecture. That might be a nice next subject to talk about. Or maybe a device development series, not tied to a particular application. The third and most important promise, mainly to me, is that I will start preparation of a future series way in advance. That allows me to take it easier, still having the time to do other things. Right now I have the feeling that I am living my life around a webcast series. That should be different in the future. I even have to ask people that are sending me questions about the webcast series to be patient. I will follow up your questions with answers but it may be a while. There is only one priority right now. Next Wednesday at 11.00 AM PST I should be ready to talk about Web Services and Windows Mobile Devices. That is all that matters, everything else can and should wait until I have more time available. Just be patient and stick with me, OK?
