Column Details

No more excuses

The DotNETForDevices weekly column has been neglected a little bit over the last few months. There are tons of excuses for it, although I wonder if I should bore you with them. Well, of course this is a good way to fill at least one more column. First there was the Webcast series on creating a Windows Mobile Line-of-Business application that took much more time than I originally expected. In fact, I am still working on the final sample code in Visual Basic.NET for that series. Immediately after that it was time to prepare for MEDC in Las Vegas. Even though I only had 4 presentations there, well, in fact one presentation and three instructor-led labs, it still took a lot of time to prepare for everything. Especially writing lab manuals is very time consuming. Right now I am in the midst of my US – Europe tour with a current stop at Seattle for WinHEC. That again does not leave much time to add content to DotNETForDevices, since I am here officially as a member of the press, meaning I have to write articles about WinHEC. Of course I will try to share many cool things that are presented here on DotNETForDevices as well. Immediately after WinHEC I will fly back to Holland for one week, just enough time to prepare for MEDC Europe that runs between June 6 and June 8. If you happen to be in Nice during that time, make sure to come by and meet me in person. Looking at my own session schedule, Wednesday June 7 is going to be interesting to say the least. With a stopover in Amsterdam I immediately travel back to Boston for TechEd 2006. Again, hopefully there is time enough to write about that conference, but with TechEd I simply never know. Right now I am not scheduled for official duty there, but that might change any second. If there are things to do, like proctoring during labs, being involved with ask-the-expert sessions and maybe one or two informal presentations there is again hardly anytime left to update this website. Following TechEd you can hear me presenting again from my home office for my next MSDN Webcast that will be aired on July 5th. This will be a single webcast, but we will once again talk about Line-of-Business applications. The theme for this webcast is “Best of TechEd” so I better keep my eyes and ears open in Boston. I'll make further announcements about this webcast on my blog when the deatils are available. After that preparations will start for the summer break when I once again fly back to the US for a couple of weeks. When we are in August it is time to prepare for yet another conference, Mobile Connections that will be held in Las Vegas in November where I will give 3 presentations, including a whole day post-conference session. In between we have some vague ideas to start another long running webcast series for MSDN. Hopefully I can share details about that soon. And in between all of these activities I also have to work on my daytime job, take a look at the beta version of the brand new version of Windows CE, now officially called Windows CE 6.0. What is it with product names these days? I really liked Longhorn over Windows Vista and Yamazaki over Windows CE 6.0. Anyway, Windows CE 6.0 will be a wonderful release, less memory limits, less process limits and nice integration in Visual Studio 2005. You will definitely hear more about that baby. Last but not least it is also about time to take a look at the next version of Visual Studio. All in all way to much work and not enough time. So far DotNETForDevices has suffered from this. I will try to not let that happen too much in the future though.
