Unfortunately, the Mobile Connections Conference is history already. Hopefully all attendees had as good a time as I had. The mobile Connections Conference was smaller than all other Connections conferences that were held simultaneously, but we still had nicely filled rooms. It was remarkable that lots of the people attending our sessions were new to the Windows Mobile space. In that way this was a great first time experience for everybody to get familiar with developing for Windows Mobile Devices. There was a lot of content that attendees could pick from, starting with a number of introduction-like sessions, mostly presented by our friends from Microsoft. During the week the content became more and more advanced, so the line-up was pretty good. The demo Gods have been with me all through the conference until the last demonstration I planned during the whole day post conference session. All of a sudden I ran into some connectivity problems, not the best thing to happen if you are demonstrating calling out to Web Services. At first I was wondering what was going on, but soon I remembered that good old solution that we software developers always can use. Whenever something is not working, simply disconnect everything, reboot the system and continue as if there were no problems at all. If this same approach would only work for a car. Imagine the following. You are stranded with your car, the engine stops running or so. A typical software solution would be the following. Simply get out of the car, close the doors of the car, reopen them, start the engine, close the doors and continue driving as if nothing has happened. I wonder if we are so advanced, compared to the automobile industry or if we still have to mature a bit, after all, cars are with us for more than a century already. Anyway, this approach of course solved all my problems, so I guess indeed the demo Gods were good for me during the Mobile Connections conference. Right now it is time to fly back to Amsterdam and to start preparing for a number of Webcasts. I will present a webcast around asynchronous programming one and a half weeks from now, followed by the first two parts of a little Series Jim Wilson and I will present around Windows Live for Mobile Devices. The material for those Webcasts must still be created, so I guess there is not too much time to recover from jetlag. However, I won’t complain at all. After all, presenting Webcasts is a lot of fun, so is presenting during a conference. Hopefully Mobile Connections was a success for all attendees and for the organizers as well. I can only wish for Mobile Connections to become a yearly tradition. After all, we then have MEDC and Mobile Connections to pick from. And for you as a developer … The more conferences where you can learn about developing for Windows Mobile Devices the better, right? So I hope to see you soon, be it during a Webcast or person to person during another conference.
