Conferences + training coming up

It is a late Saturday night when I am writing this column. Why even bother to write this column now you might wonder? Well, as I already said last week, the 2nd half of the 2007 conference season is about to start and I had a tough deadline to come up with a total of 4 presentations for Mobile Connections 2007 which will be held in Las Vegas later this year. First stop however is going to be Arnhem in The Netherlands. Tomorrow I will head off for the Software Developer Conference in the eastern part of Holland. On Monday I will speak about Windows Live Services on Windows Mobile devices, on Tuesday about applications that will seamlessly run on any Windows Mobile Device. SDC is a large, annual conference in The Netherlands with lots of international speakers. Even though my native language is Dutch, it has been a while that I presented in Dutch, so I wonder how speaking in Dutch will turn out. Immediately following this conference it is time to start preparations for a Windows Embedded CE 6.0 training that I am scheduled for one week from now. Today I spent all day rehearsing the demos for SDC. Hopefully we have a decent Internet connection at the conference, especially for my first session about Windows Live Services on Windows Mobile Devices. Today I had some problems connecting the Windows Mobile 6 Professional Device Emulator, and really, the whole point of this talk was lost with that. So hopefully the Demo Gods are once again helping me on Monday. I have some pretty cool stuff to show, but it will only work out with a decent network connection. For both sessions I have planned to do some live coding on stage, something I really, really like to do. At the same time, it is kind of risky, especially with the way I am typing. Anyway, I am looking forward to the upcoming conferences, ah well, only 6 presentations to deliver before Christmas (and than back to work for the 2008 conference season). Thank goodness there are also a couple of MSDN Webcasts coming up, especially our series around Visual Studio 2008. The first part of this series is a co-presentation with both Jim Wilson and I. After that we take the stage in turn. Hopefully by February of 2008 you are completely informed about the possibilities that Visual Studio 2008 brings for Device Developers. Tomorrow, another long day is waiting, doing more rehearsals for SDC and making sure that all demos are really working. At the end of a 75 minute talk I always wonder if it was really necessary to put in at least 10 hours of preparation, excluding creating the slide deck and the demos. However, this works for me, and believe me, that 75 minutes on stage are 75 minutes I surely don’t want to miss ad always remember. I guess I should be grateful. Having the chance to talk to software developers about some great solutions we have right now in the Windows Mobile space, but even cooler, referring to the MSDN Webcasts and Mobile Connections 2007, also talking about even better future possibilities to create the best applications ever for Windows Mobile devices.
